What are the most popular swim trunk lengths?
Most guys grab something in the 7" to 10" inseam range - long enough to not look like you're at a 2004 swim meet, short enough to move around. Volcom and Empyre both hit that sweet spot. We also stock 4" cuts if you're going shorter and 12" for the longer boardshort look.
What's the difference between swim trunks and board shorts?
Swim trunks are typically shorter with a baggier fit and a mesh liner built in. Board shorts run longer, usually 18"-22" outseam, and are cut closer to the leg for surfing or skating around the beach without fabric flapping everywhere. Volcom makes both - it comes down to how you're wearing them.
What are men's swim trunks made of?
Quick-dry polyester is the standard - it sheds water fast and doesn't weigh you down when you get out. Some styles from Vitriol mix in recycled fabrics or textured weaves for a heavier streetwear feel. Either way, elastic waistbands and mesh-lined pockets are pretty much across the board.
Can you wear swim trunks casually?
Yeah, that's basically the whole point. Throw on a graphic tee, some slides, and you're good - no one's checking if you've been near water. The shorter inseam styles especially read more like shorts than swimwear, which is why brands like Empyre and Volcom design them to work both ways.
