Longboard wheels determine how fast you go, how easily and far you can slide, and how smooth your overall ride will be. Several factors contribute to wheel performance such as durometer and shape. A good rule of thumb is, the smaller the wheel, the quicker the acceleration, but the slower the top speed. On the flip side, larger wheels get up to speed slower, but are designed for rougher roads, and higher top-end speeds. The durometer (or hardness rating) of a wheel provides grip. Softer longboard wheels (with a lower durometer rating) are ideal for rougher surfaces and grip well, while a harder longboard wheel offers slightly less grip for smoother surfaces.
